ProfileAs Canada Research Chair in Ultracold Gases for Quantum Simulation, the AITF Strategic Chair for Hybrid Quantum Systems, and a fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research's Quantum Materials program, I am interested in exploring how ultracold atomic gases can be used to explore the growth, preservation, and demise of quantum correlations in a variety of many-body systems. Using the tools of atomic physics, we are building a new ultracold quantum gases laboratory at the University of Alberta to study the fundamentals of quantum many-body physics. As part of the Departement of Physics' Condensed Matter group, we will apply these techniqes to study how systems of individual quantum particles engage in collective or coopertative behavior, focussing especially on the influence of interactions, external fields, and non-equilibrium behaviour.
